First, COVID-19 leads to supply chain inventory accumulation.

Second, there is the increase in uncertainties. It comes from the transfer of the supply chain to the market share. Other competitors expect that Huawei can get more market share due to sanctions. These uncertainties lead to repeated orders, and the actual production capacity is actually greater than the real market demand.

Third, COVID-19 accelerates digital transformation and changes the shape of work and life.

When it comes to the hot mature process in the market, for example, 28 nanometers now seems to be in short supply, but the global production capacity is still greater than demand.

He believes that the general trend of AI and 5G is a factor in the increased long-term demand in the semiconductor industry. TSMC itself has enough time and financial resources to support the increased demand for such semiconductor wafers. In order to support customers, TSMC also increases production capacity, including mature processes, but this is not a structural problem and should be more related to customer management.

When uncertainty and market share change, there will be overorders and repeated orders. For TSMC, production capacity used to be taken first, but we cannot do so now. TSMC will try its best to use the overall analysis to understand which industry is the most urgent demand and which industry may have inventory reduction problems to deal with.
